Albany EB games
(Rounds 13-24 of the Main Event will come tomorrow)
I'd taken a 2-3 week hiatus from studying or playing before Albany. The early bird mainly served to shake off some rust, and as I learned from Quackling, I had rust to shake off.
Some cute stats:
Phony chart entries: 0
My exchanges: 0
Opponent exchanges: 0
Record with equity loss <100: 0-2
Record with equity loss >100: 4-1
To the games:
Game 1 vs. John Morse (W, 413-315)
Nice to open with a 98-point win despite getting outbingoed 2-0. (Equity loss: 111.1)
Play the game
Game 2 vs. Sam Kantimathi (W, 405-387)
Somehow improve to 3-0 vs. Sam. (It would be 4-0 after the main event before losing to him in the late bird.) (Equity loss: 147.9)
Play the game
Game 3 vs. Mason Shambach (W, 420-310)
Super-sloppy game. The tiles masked my incompetence. (Equity loss: 169.0)
Play the game
Game 4 vs.
magratheazaphod (W, 496-389)
Get a luckbox 104-93 one-two punch early. The 10th-ranked Scrabbler in North America puts on a comeback clinic and is gracious enough to co-annotate. (Equity loss: 160.6 ... 93 for missing my out bingo)
Play the game
Game 5 vs.
goldfishbw (L, 368-471)
The train starts to derail as Bradley plays a great game. Thanks to Bradley for the racks. (Equity loss: 82.6)
Play the game
Game 6 vs. David Lewis (L, 397-482)
Usually when I can lose this kind of equity against the bottom seed, I can win. Not this time. (Equity loss: 23.9)
Play the game
Game 7 vs.
vinylchances (L, 395-434)
Fun game, and considering how I played on the day, I should be relieved to only lose one winnable game. At least it was to a good player and a good guy. Evans already posted the below annotation (I watched the Quackling and called myself an idiot repeatedly during) on his LJ. Not too much to add except for this story, from Evans and Jesse laughing across the table at hibachi:
Me: "I'm missing something."
Evans: "DIABETIC?" (upon seeing the hurt look on my face) "I'm sorry, that was mean."
Me: "I'm GLAD you went 1-7 today!" (Let the record show I lose after DIAbETI(C) because he bingoes out with RETOTAL.)
Also, if I'd just played IF instead of EF, U(L)U the next turn, my rack's ADEEIT? and an easy bingo instead of ADEIIT? and a missed bingo. Big blunder that cost me the game. (Equity loss: 135.8)

Games 5 and 6 appear to be wrong links.
Ah, yes, Games 5 and 6 were messed up. Cut-and-paste fail on this end. Now fixed.
